Awkward Elbows

If I could just walk backwards everywhere

To avoid meeting anyone

Face to face, eye to eye

If I could just hide underneath

The common courtesies

The small talk that we

Find necessary in elevators

Most of the awkward elbows

And polite laughs and stances

Such indignant and strenuous circumstances

None of us can avoid
